Family Time at Home (Artist Paul Landry)

Southport In Winter by artist Paul Landry

No matter where you spend the winter, the simple joys found in this charming snow scene are sure to make your season bright!  Spring is just around the corner, but until the tulips and mud puddles arrive, we have a few more weeks to enjoy the glistening winter landscape.

Today, Feb. 20, is Family Day in Alberta, Canada…a day officially inked on the calendars to remind ourselves of the importance of slowing down and making time for our family and loved ones.  Many families will spend the day enjoying outdoor community activities, escaping to the slopes for the last long weekend of the season, or enjoying some quality time in the comfort of their homes.

This painting by Paul Landry, Southport in Winter, depicts a perfect winter morning near the harbor; the only sounds you hear are the random clank of a halyard slapping against the mainmasts of one the sailboats in the winter’s frostbiting fleet.

“I believe you have to know your subject to paint it well.  I grew up with many of the characters who now appear in my paintings. Spending time on the sea allowed me to know its many moods.” – Paul Landry

Trivia Tidbit:

Paul Landry paints to classical music. “It’s a mood-setter that creates the right atmosphere for me.”

About the Artist:

Artist Paul Landry

The work of Paul Landry can brighten a room by its presence alone. Romantic images of flower-filled seaside gardens, cozy cottages, and ocean shores, the paintings are bright and airy and filled with lush colors. Now one of the most popular nostalgia artists in the U.S., Landry was born on the coast of Canada, in Halifax, Nova Scotia. The grandson of two sea captains (one Scottish, the other French), it was inevitable that he, too, turn to the sea as he grew older, working with fishermen on the banks of Nova Scotia and helping them pull up their nets and traps.
